I Hated Speaking on Camera. Until I Did This for 30 Days…

July 17, 2025

What if the fastest way to build confidence on camera wasn’t about being perfect—but about showing up, messy and unscripted, every single day?

This blog is your step-by-step guide to building real, lasting confidence on camera—without scripts, editing, or overthinking.

If you’ve ever felt nervous, awkward, or unsure about speaking on video, you’re not alone. Most people struggle with showing up authentically and consistently.

That’s exactly what this challenge is designed to change.

Over the next 30 days, you’ll take small, daily actions to become more comfortable, more natural, and more impactful every time you hit “record.”

Let’s break down how it works, what to expect each week, and how to make the most of it—whether you’re posting on social media, sharing video updates at work, or simply growing your voice in public.

Here’s how:

  1. Record one video a day (30–90 seconds)

→ Think briefly—but don’t over-prepare.

→ Speak unscripted—no reading, no full scripts.

→ One take only. Upload it—even if it’s messy. That’s the muscle we’re building.

  1. Post it anywhere

Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn—your choice.

(I’ll reshare some of my favorites each week.)

Weekly Focus: Train One Skill at a Time

Each week focuses on one essential speaking skill to build a solid foundation:

  • Week 1: Warm up your voice and mind

  • Week 2: Speak with fun and service

  • Week 3: Expand your comfort zone

  • Week 4: Speak with clarity and structure

Repeat the same focus daily—so it becomes second nature.

Quick Setup Guide

Remember that this challenge is about confidence over production. If it takes more than 30 seconds to set up, you’re making it harder than it needs to be.

Here’s what works (but none of it is required):

  • Camera: Your smartphone is more than enough.

  • Tripod: Optional—use a book, cup, or your hand.

  • Lighting: Natural light or a ring light.

  • Audio: Phone mic is fine. Want to level up? Try Hollyland Lark M2 or DJI Mic Mini.

Why This Challenge Works

  • It removes the pressure of perfection.

  • It builds consistency (the real confidence builder).

  • It gets you used to showing up, even when it’s messy.

  • It helps you connect, not perform.

Whether you’re trying to grow your brand, improve your public speaking, or just feel more like yourself on camera—this challenge works because it focuses on real practice, not theory.

Week-by-Week Breakdown

Each week focuses on one key skill to help you get better on camera—without scripts, stress, or second-guessing.

Week 1: Get Warmed Up

Goal: Feel relaxed and ready before you hit record.

Most people freeze because they overthink. This week, you’ll learn to loosen up with a quick pre-video routine.

What to do before each video:

  • Shake out your body (30 seconds)

  • Take 5 deep breaths (use box breathing: 4 in, 4 hold, 4 out, 4 hold)

  • Stand tall in a “power pose” for 1 minute

Prompts to try:

  • A hobby you love

  • A simple thing that made you smile

  • Someone who inspires you

  • 3 things you’re grateful for

Week 2: Make It Fun & Helpful

Goal: Stop worrying about how you look—focus on helping someone.

When you focus outward (instead of on yourself), you show up more relaxed, generous, and engaging.

Try this mindset shift:

  • Say: “I’m here to serve” (3x)

  • Picture someone who needs your message

  • Smile like you’re talking to a friend

Prompts to try:

  • A life tip that’s helped you

  • Advice you’d give to someone struggling

  • A proud moment or lesson you learned

  • Advice for your younger self

Week 3: Step Outside Your Comfort Zone

Goal: Film in public to care less about what others think.

Recording around people feels weird—but it helps you grow fast. When you stop hiding, you start shining.

What to do when you feel awkward:

  • Pause and notice your feelings

  • Breathe through the discomfort

  • Say: “This means I’m growing”

Prompts to try:

  • A fear you’ve overcome

  • A time you failed (and what you learned)

  • Something that used to scare you

  • A belief you’ve changed over time

Week 4: Add Structure (Without a Script)

Goal: Speak clearly and stay on track—even without notes.

This week, you’ll use simple frameworks to organize your message.

Pick one of these structures:

1. PREP: Point → Reason → Example → Point again
2. Problem → Solution
3. Past → Present → Future

Prompts to try:

  • A recent challenge and how you solved it

  • A big lesson from this year

  • A mindset shift that changed everything

  • A project you’re excited about

Final Words Before You Start

Feeling nervous? Awkward? A little self-conscious?

That’s completely normal—and exactly why this challenge is so powerful.

You don’t build confidence by waiting until you feel ready.
You build it by showing up before you do.

This challenge isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being present.
No fancy setup. No editing. No overthinking.

Just one video.
One take.
Every day.

That’s it.

Let it be messy. Let it be real.
Because real is what builds trust—and what builds you.

You ready?
Let’s begin.
